Have you seen the new subscription prompt? Let us know in the comments below. But there’s no Netflix app for Mac and there is one for Windows. Windows is mocked by Mac users for being an inferior operating system. Install Windows 10 on Your Mac Okay this is a drastic solution that not everyone will like. You’ll be able to use the Netflix app for Mac now. The Netflix app for iOS is available on the App Store. Choose your Mac from the offered list of devices. More recently, Apple has also been forced to allow App Store apps to provide third-party payment methods in some countries such as the Netherlands and South Korea. Unsurprisingly, Apple tried to stop Netflix from redirecting iOS users to subscribe to a Netflix plan using Safari.ĭue to recent antitrust investigations, Apple has finally allowed some types of apps to offer alternative subscription methods outside of the App Store without having to pay a commission to the company. Back in 2018, the company released an update to its iOS app that removed the option to let users subscribe to Netflix directly from its official iPhone and iPad app. Netflix had already ditched in-app subscriptionsĭespite this update, Netflix had ditched in-app subscriptions long ago. It’s worth noting that Apple considers reading apps to be those that offer digital content such as magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, or video as the main functionality of the app. This, of course, allows Netflix not to pay the 30% commission for each subscription made within iOS apps, which is reduced to 15% for recurring subscriptions after one year. Tapping the Continue button takes you to the Netflix website where you can enter your personal data, choose a payment method, and subscribe to a Netflix plan. Apple is not responsible for the privacy or security of transactions made with this developer. When you tap the subscribe button, a message says that “you’re about to leave the app and go to an external website.” The app also notes that the transaction will no longer be Apple’s responsibility and that all subscription management should be done under Netflix’s platform.Īny accounts or purchases made outside of this app will be managed by the developer “Netflix.” Your App Store account, stored payment methods, and related features, such as subscription management and refund requests, will not be available. It’s uncertain when exactly Netflix began rolling out this option to iPhone and iPad users, but based on reports, the rollout now seems to be worldwide. Now Netflix is rolling out an option in its iOS app that takes users to its website in order to finish a new Netflix subscription.Īs noted by multiple users and also confirmed by 9to5Mac, the Netflix app now uses the new iOS API for reader apps that takes the user to an external website before making a subscription. I just wish Netflix allowed me to take advantage of these features and watch movies on my laptop wherever I may be.Earlier this year, Apple began allowing “reader” apps to provide external links for customers so they can log in and pay for a subscription from outside the App Store. And they’re perfect for podcasts, and movies. Everyone knows they’re the best in the market. Although I rarely use the speakers, thanks to headphones, I love them. The 2560×1600 display is very good, colour accurate, and a joy to consume 10 to 20min YouTube videos on. But in the few instances I do, I really enjoy it. I don’t consume lots of video content on my laptop. But wouldn’t it be great to have it as an option for those who want it? So perhaps Netflix doesn’t view having a Mac app as important. Why is this something Netflix hasn’t yet considered especially now that they needn’t build something from the ground up? And I know not many people watch movies on their laptop. Wouldn’t it be great to save some movies offline and get to take advantage of the battery life to watch Netflix movies offline? Especially when travelling? Perhaps only the upcoming 16-inch MacBook will be able to beat it. My M1 Macbook Pro has the best battery life of any laptop currently. It’s crazy that even after the launch of macOS Big Sur, and after Apple switched to the M1 chip we still haven’t seen Netflix port their iPad app to M1 devices! Remember you can run iPhone and iPad apps on M1 devices, all it takes developers is a simple switch allowing their iPhone and iPad apps to be listed on the Mac App Store. Especially having travelled to an area where the internet isn’t very reliable. I wanted to pass time watching something and it dawned on me how convenient it would have been to just open the Netflix app and watch something I’d previously saved offline. Today, I sat down and wondered: Why the hell is there no Netflix for Mac App? I mean I’ve known this fact ever since I got my first MacBook, but it was even more evident today.
